I am shocked at the news of the attack on Slovakian PM Fico after a meeting of the Slovak Cabinet in Handlova.

Nothing can ever justify violence or such attacks.

My thoughts are with the Prime Minister and his family.

The EU is working on updating existing rules on the safety of toys.

The objectives:

Today the Council adopts the #migration & #asylum pact:

☑️easing the burden on EU countries where most migrants arrive
☑️offering a fairer and more efficient framework for registering and processing asylum requests
☑️ helping to reduce secondary movements

EU sanctions can now target persons and entities supplying or involved in transferring Iranian missiles and drones to

➡️ Russia for use in its full-scale invasion of Ukraine
➡️ armed groups and entities undermining peace and security in the Middle-East and the Red Sea region

The Council has given a positive assessment of the 'Ukraine plan', Ukraine's comprehensive reform and investment strategy for the next four years.

This means that Ukraine fulfils the precondition for support under the Ukraine Facility, and that payments can start to flow.

The Council gave its green light today to measures that will simplify the common agricultural policy and allow farmers more flexibility in complying with certain #CAP rules.

The Council has adopted new targets to reduce CO2 emissions from trucks, buses and coaches:

⏬ -45% from 2030
⏬ -65% from 2035
⏬ -90% from 2040

And from 2035 new urban buses will have to be zero-emission vehicles.
