Midday work ban rules generally do not have specific provisions that address transportation. Companies stop work, but workers are either stuck on site until work resumes, or spend more time travelling to and from their accommodation. These hours are not considered working hours.

A 2021 report by the World Health Organization found that migrant workers are among the populations most vulnerable to climate change and extreme temperatures in Kuwait, in part because they make up the vast majority of outdoor workers.

On paper, only workers in the Oil & Gas sector are usually exempt from the midday work ban regulations. But delivery workers in the F&B sector who use motorbikes, attendants in petrol stations, & security guards continue to work through the midday ban without any regulations.

Summer working bans, which require workers in direct sunlight to take a midday break, came into effect today in #Saudi and the #UAE . #Oman , #Kuwait , and #Qatar began their summer working bans on June 1, while #Bahrain ’s doesn’t begin until July.
